Join our dynamic and rapidly expanding Energy & Sustainability team in a role that promises tremendous growth potential. Our firm is currently looking for a Senior Energy Engineer to provide project management and technical expertise for the Energy and Sustainability Division. This individual will operate out of our Los Angeles office. As a key player in our West Coast operations, this is a unique position that includes facilitating business development in the region, as well as direct performance of technical services, including but not limited to: energy efficiency, energy generation, energy management services, climate action planning; carbon reduction measure development; and retrocommissioning related services supported by a robust team of energy, climate and sustainability technical experts across the U.S.

 

To excel in this role, we're seeking a candidate who is a registered engineer with keen awareness of local energy and climate-related policies and regulations. It is preferable for the candidate to also have an existing network in the West or in various markets across the U.S. to facilitate business development opportunities. This is both a technical and highly communicative, customer-facing role.

Responsibilities

The following list of duties and responsibilities is not all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as deemed necessary by management:

  • Deep understanding of energy and sustainability regulations, industry best practices, and emerging technologies.
  • Knowledge of building systems performance and solutions for reducing operational emissions/costs.
  • General knowledge of climate change reporting frameworks and international standards
  • Perform technical tasks for delivery of energy and sustainability technical services for decarbonization (including energy analysis, energy models), climate emission analysis, and technical reports.
    • Perform ASHRAE Level 1 and 2 energy audits, analyze energy usage data, and identify and/or confirm potential electric and gas conservation measures.
    • Identify, estimate, and apply for applicable energy efficiency incentives.
    • Ability to perform detailed energy savings calculations and spreadsheet analysis.
    • Ability to construct and execute measurement and verification plans.
    • Ability to calculate cost savings and return on investment (ROI) for energy-efficient improvements and renewable energy systems.
    • Review architectural, mechanical, or electrical plans and specifications to evaluate energy efficiency or determine economic, service, or engineering feasibility.
    • Inspect or monitor energy systems, including heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) or daylighting systems to determine energy use or potential energy savings.
  • Provide consultation to clients or other engineers on topics such as climate control systems, energy modeling, data logging, energy management control systems, lighting or daylighting design, sustainable design.
  • Use effective writing and verbal skills to deliver high-quality reports and presentations.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders while delivering excellent customer service in a highly dynamic growth environment.
  • Contribute to business growth strategies.
  • Anticipate potential schedule or priority delays and initiate plans for alternative actions

Qualifications

  • 7+ years' of direct engineering experience and related project/construction management
  • BS/MS in Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical Engineering preferred)
  • Possession of a current license to practice as a CA State Professional Engineer is required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills, as well as business presentation skills.
  • Must have demonstrated familiarity with State and local building codes and recent climate regulations.
  • Experience with municipalities, government agencies a plus.
  • Proficiency in building energy modeling (eQuest, EnergyPlus) and financial modeling of solutions is required.
