Overview

We are currently looking for an experienced Design Manager to operate as a Certified Access Specialist (CASp) with a special focus on ADA projects. This position will be in support of a public school district's construction program and will be dedicated to educational facility projects. Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, manage, and closeout projects related to accessibility throughout the school district's various facilities. 
  • Manage and update the district's ADA transition plan and manage various barrier removal projects to resolve existing ADA barriers across the district. 
  • Provide accessibility design reviews and on-site field monitoring and inspections. 
  • Oversees the design process to ensure compliance with district's standards and guidelines.
  • Update district standards and support Project Managers on accessibility items. 
  • Provides architects with clear and consistent direction with regard to goals and objectives, standards, site, schedule, and budget for each project.
  • Establishes and follows an effective and efficient design review process to ensure that the design meets the overall goals and objectives for the project, provides maximum value for dollars budgeted, and are appropriate and enduring to meet the functional needs of the district, the local community, and the environment.
  • Ensures that decisions are made in a timely manner.
  • Ensures that all steps within the project are documented and that the documentation meets legal requirements.
  • Reviews design changes submitted to ensure project remains within budget.
  • Coordinates with a host of professional staff who support the design function for the District.
  • Provides evaluation of architects and their consultants performance.
  • Evaluates architect, engineer and other consultant fees.
  • Reviews design quality for efficiency, completeness of submittals, compatibility with school’s architectural character, established scope and compliance with the district's ADA design guidelines.
  • Utilizes understanding and knowledge of ADA guidelines and design principles.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from a recognized college or university with a bachelor’s degree in Architecture.
  • Minimum 5 years' of full time paid professional experience managing the facilities design, or the planning and coordination of capital projects that includes the overall design, contract administration, cost estimating, and scheduling activities. 
  • Must have prior experience supporting ADA barrier removal projects. 
  • Must have prior experience with the design, planning, and construction of educational facilities or similar public agencies.
  • A valid Certified Access Specialist (CASp) certification required.
